Nice site and fees are reasonable.
Was there in June and the yellow flies were very bad all day long and mosquitos were bas at night and early morning.
However I will never return due to the restrooms being a disgrace. You couldn't even use them due to being so nasty. Guess that's why they call it pig pen.
$2 per campsite, pay by envelope whenever you come. Awesome camping spots by the pond. Easy to get to with clear road signs . I had service with ATT. Didn't encounter any snakes or bears during my 2 stays. Beautiful Spanish moss. Could see the stars at night.
Do a lot of camping thru all of the national forests all over the US and this is the worst I've ever seen.
Hopefully people will learn to have some respect before they shut it down. That would be heartbreaking.
The camps along the lake (Ocean Pond) have been re-worked and are 100% better with great views. The camping around the boat ramp is not very private and can get pretty jammed in during certain times. There are bathrooms across from the boatramp and there is a $2.00 day use fee for camping.
I love camping here. Cost $2 night, free with access pass. Drop envelope honor system. They added sites and even added new picnic tables while I was here. Peak season is during general hunting season usually Nov 1 thru Jan 9. Unlimited camping at that time. Outside that it's 14 days in a 30 day period which you must vacate the forest, not move to another campsite. I love building campfires with the unlimited supply of fatwood/fatlighter. May through November the yellow flies will eat you alive so avoid them months or bring the Deet. There is a little store about 5 miles away. Full amentities 16-20 miles away in Lake City. 20 miles the other direction is MacClenny. No redlights going that way. $1 for 20 lbs of ice vending there. First MacClenny exit down on the right.
Beautiful, shaded campsites right on the lake. Boat launch. NO electric, water, hookups, or facilities. One communal pit toilet. If you are self contained and like it simple, this place is great. Busy during hunt season and on weekends.
there are a lot of visitors late night coming thru I guess just to set and party which is a little disrespect due to them not paying a fee. Also boaters not paying fees either.
Was there in June 2017.
